Dear Reader,

As many of you know Digital Tree Studios, LLC is a fresh graphical design and drafting firm in the DFW area. What simply began as an idea between two friends has become something we believe can revolutionize the way graphical firms are looked upon in the AEC industry. I will not bore you with the background details of how or why; you can go here for that.

Although I will tell you that on June 29, 2009 we were declared a business entity by the state of Texas and by July 10, 2009 we had all the paperwork needed to start functioning as a business.   Since then we have been slowly working on the infrastructure required to run what we believe to be a successful business.

This being the inaugural issue of our newsletter, let's explain what you can expect in future issues.  As the company grows and gets more mature we plan to be able to bring you valuable information from various regions of the AEC industry.  You can look forward to monthly updates on the growth of the company, along with Tips and Tricks for some of the software used in the AEC industry, and of course the latest news and technology from within the industry.

Come along with us on our journey as we grow.  I hope you enjoy the ride, I know we will.

Google SketchUp 7.1 Released

3D modeling software may not be the first thing you think about when you say Google, but the company does well with SketchUp. The new version is a “point” release, so it is essentially a service pack release, and it is free to download for all users, including SketchUp Pro users.

The service release comes with some improved performance for large models, minor bug fixes, better integration with Google Maps Street View and Google earth KMZ files. For the Pro users LayOut has been improved as well; it now includes a simple but powerful tool for dimensioning models and creating dimensioned drawings.
